Overwatch Christmas Event - Winter Wonderland 2021 Release Date, Skins and More

Table of Contents

Could this year’s Overwatch Christmas event top the last? Let’s take a look at everything 2021’s Winter Wonderland may entail!

Overwatch is known for hosting a number of fun and exciting events in-game. Not only do players receive some incredible skins and other cosmetics but they also get to take part in limited-time game modes.

December is meant to be one of the most festive months of the year so let’s look forward to celebrating it in Overwatch! Unfortunately, we have limited information so far with Christmas being a few months away but we can take a guess at what’s to come based on previous years.

Overwatch Christmas Event Release Date

As mentioned above, the event is way off yet but let’s reflect on previous Overwatch Christmas start dates, thanks to Fandom!

  • 2016: 13 December – 2 January
  • 2017: 12 December – 1 January
  • 2018: 11 December –  2 January
  • 2019: 10 December – 2 January
  • 2020: 15 December – 5 January

From the above, we can estimate Winter Wonderland will likely start sometime between December 10th and January 5th.

We’re guessing the event will begin on December 12th and end on January 1st, just like in 2017. Bear in mind this is pure speculation and currently cannot be confirmed.

Overwatch Christmas Event Skins

The Overwatch Christmas event is best known for its many new, exciting skins and cosmetics. There’s too way too many for us to run through but you can get a sneak peek below.

We can’t read Blizzard’s mind on this topic although we expect this is the most anticipated aspect of Winter Wonderland and we can see why.

As mentioned prior, there’s not enough information currently to know what’s to come but, of course, we will update this when more news is made available.

Overwatch Christmas Event Game Modes

No doubt players will once again be battling it out in Mei’s Snowball Offensive and Yeti Hunt unless Blizzard decides to throw us a snowball, get it? Curveball, snowball?

Mei’s Snowball Offensive is a brawl with six players on each team, fighting on either Ecopoint: Antarctica or Black Forest. Players can only select Mei in this mode and throw snowballs at one another to deal damage.

Winter Mystery is basically just Mystery Heroes but takes place on Winter versions of maps. We wonder which map might be next for a Christmas Event makeover next, let’s talk more on that below.

Overwatch Christmas Event Map Changes

As Winter Wonderland comes to town, so do map changes, though they have no impact on gameplay, it’s a nice change of scenery!

Usually, you’ll see King’s Row and Hanamura transform but we haven’t really seen a newer map edited. The most recent maps released include Kanezaka, Havana, Paris and Petra to name a few.

We doubt we’ll get to see any of the previous mentioned covered in snow, but we can keep our fingers crossed for new content, map changes wise.

That’s about all we know so far, be sure to check back as we’ll update you when more information is released!
