Epic Games finally launched Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2: Resistance earlier today, but fans were left perplexed after learning that the popular building mechanic was no longer working.

When Fortnite‘s Battle Royale mode launched all the way back in 2017, one of the key gameplay features that set it apart from the competition was the ability to build structures mid-battle. This completely changed the way players fought each other and began a new era of Battle Royale.

Epic Games Disables Fortnite Building In Chapter 3 Season 2

The news was first spotted by Fortnite leaker and data miner, iFireMonkey, who discovered in-game audio files suggesting that building would be disabled in Chapter 3 Season 2.

It appears that the reason for disabling the building mechanic is due to a new ‘No Permit Questline’ for players to complete as part of the Chapter 3 Season 2 introduction.

Building will reportedly be disabled for the first 9 days of the season and will be unavailable in standard Battle Royale modes.

The news was then confirmed via Epic Games in the official Chapter 3 Season 2 patch notes, which state that building is unaffected in competitive/Arena playlists as well as in Team Rumble and Creative Islands.

It is also worth noting that various leakers have discovered an upcoming ‘No Building Battle Royale’ limited-time mode, which is set to arrive later on in the season. So for those that end up preferring the no building aspect in Fortnite, you’ll be able to play in the upcoming LTM once the feature returns to the standard modes.
