Edens Zero, the new anime from Hiro Mashima of Fairy Tail and Groove Master Rave fame, is starting this April 10th, but when’s the release date for the English version on Netflix?

Edens Zero follows Shiki Granbell, who spent all his life alone on a planet inhabited by robots. Until he meets Rebecca and Happy and join their spaceship to go on Shonen flavored adventures.

Serialized in Shuukan Shonen Magazine (Kodansha) since 2018, the original Edens Zero manga, unlike Rave and Fairy Tail, has a huge focus on sci-fi themes. With characters using special powers called Ether Gear. However, many characters appearing in Edens Zero have their character designs based on past Hiro Mashima characters. As such, longtime fans will feel right at home.

When’s the release date for Edens Zero on Netflix?

In Japan, Edens Zero will be airing on Nippon TV every Sundays at 00:55 JST. Converting to other time zones, that’s Saturday 11:55 AM ET / 8:55 AM PT / 16:55 GMT. Edens Zero episode 1 will be airing this Saturday, April 10.

However, outside Japan, Netflix got the streaming rights for the Edens Zero anime. Netflix, unlike Funimation, Crunchyroll, or other anime streaming services, do not simulcast. Instead, it adds to it catalog all episodes as a “season” when at least one cour (between 10 to 13 episodes) aired in Japan.

Judging by this tweet from the official Edens Zero twitter, the anime series will have a Fall 2021 release date on Netflix. This will be once at least 2 two cours (around 26 episodes) will have aired in Japan.

As usual, it sucks we need to wait for Netflix, similarly with theSeven Deadly Sins situation. This is one of the big downsides of Netflix getting involved in the anime industry. You know, besides being hailed as heroes saving the Japanese anime industry on social media. Except they’re not changing the situation for the betterand animators are still as underpaid as ever. Anyways, right now, there’s no real legal way to watch Edens Zero outside Japan besides waiting for Netflix.

As a side note, Hiro Mashima, besides being an awesome mangaka, is also a huge gamer. He finished Yakuza: Like a Dragonin a few days in early 2020 to cite an example. You should definitelygive him a follow on Twitter for some exclusive artwork too.

Recently, Fairy Tail received an RPG adaption by Koei Tecmo and Gust. You can read more about the game with our past coverage, and check out our review. The Fairy Tail RPG stops before the manga’s ending, so it’s possible Koei Tecmo might announce a sequel.
