The Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse, concluded their poignant journey fueled by loss, war and alchemy in 2010 (in Japan) with the manga’s end, with the second anime adaptation concluding the same year.

The exciting announcement will coincide with the show’s 20th anniversary, commemorating the release of the first manga chapter published in 2001.

FMA History

Arakawa’s manga accumulated 108 chapters with 27 tankōbon (graphic novel), and sold over 70-million copies worldwide.

The first anime began in 2003 and produced an independent ending, as the manga’s conclusion had not been written by that point.

A second anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, released in 2009 and ended faithfully to Arakawa’s conclusion.

The first anime received an animated movie, The Conqueror of Shamballa, in 2005, with Brotherhood’s theatrical variant, The Sacred Star of Milos, releasing in 2011. A live-action adaptation was also released in 2017 by Warner Bros..

Fans are hoping for a sequel to the original story, which would be a monumental announcement. However, an independent story following Roy Mustang has also been passed through the rumor mill.
