Who Is Ryan Higa?

Ryan Higa is a veteran of YouTube, having first started his channel back in 2006, he has since amassed over 20 million followers on the platform. His YouTube channel operates under the name ‘nigahiga’, and revolves around comedic sketches and music videos.

Higa also regularly streams various games on Twitch. Although he does have a much smaller community compared to his YouTube channel, with 500,000 followers on the streaming platform.

Why Was Ryan Higa Banned From Twitch?

On March 25, Ryan Higa was wrongfully banned from Twitch after the platform cited the reason as “hateful conduct”.

The popular internet star was streaming Among Us with friends when he was hit with the ban hammer and his stream was brought to an end. However, within 20 minutes Ryan Higa’s channel was brought back online by Twitch.

So why did Twitch ban Higa for a total of 20 minutes? Well, it turns out it was an honest mistake, Twitch appears to have sent Higa an apology for the ban and claims that it shouldn’t have happened.

Things aren’t as simple as they may appear, many fans are concerned that without such a large following this situation could have gone down differently.

Ryan responded to a concerned fan after the ban, who believes smaller streamers are more likely to be wrongfully banned and not have the power or audience to overturn the decision.

It is indeed a worrying thought for the millions of smaller streamers on the platform. But for now, the mistake has been rectified and peace restored.
