Pokemon Legends: Arceus may be set in ancient times when technology had not yet reached the heights of what we’ve seen in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but there are other phenomenons at work.

In order to lift some of the mystery surrounding the ‘space-time rift’ in the Hisui region, we explain what space-time distortion fields are and what you can discover within them.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus will be set within an ancient expanse of the Sinnoh region, where your task will be to “survey, catch, and research the wild Pokemon of the long-gone era” and complete the Pokedex at hand with a handful of new mechanics to set this game apart from the classics.

Hisui’s Space-Time Rift

In the ancient Hisui region sits the impressive Mount Coronet, but its peak has a strange phenomenon circling above it, which has also caused cracks in the sky to appear.

Civilians of the Hisui region refer to this unnatural occurrence as the ‘space-time rift’ and they live in constant fear of the oppressive hue it casts upon the lands and the bizarre incidents it spawns.

The mystery of this rift is thought to be caused by a specific Pokemon, one that fans will have to discover for themselves in the game’s narrative.

Space-Time Distortion Fields Explained

As you travel throughout the Hisui region, you will sometimes notice a cluster of swirling purple energy, known as Space-Time Distortion Fields.

Players will be alerted when a distortion field appears nearby, by way of a swirling icon pinpointing its exact location on the map.

Not only do these limited-time events add a mystical quality to gameplay, but they also spawn powerful pocket monsters and rare items within its perimeter.

Additionally, these distortion fields tend to spawn when players spend a certain amount of time in one area – around 30 minutes or more – and are actively catching Pokemon.

Special Pokemon Spawned in Distortion Fields

While you may be lucky enough to bag yourself a stronger variant of a specific Pokemon type, there are also other Pokemon that only spawn within distortion fields.

Distortion fields appearing in the Crimson Mirelands will spawn Porygon, and a field in the Alabaster Icelands will present Scizor.

Additionally, the Obsidian Fieldlands have a Johto Sneasel to offer, the Cobalt Coastlands harbor Magnemite, and the Coronet Highlands safeguard Cranidos and Shieldon.

Players are also in with the chance of catching Eevee or the starter Pokemon within distortion fields, as well as rare items such as Moon Stones.
