The latest Banned and Restricted update in Magic The Gathering shocks all players as the Commander Rules Committee, a group acting separately from the Wizards of the Coast, bans Golos Tireless Pilgrim from the Commander list.

Why Golos Was Banned?

Providing a reason for banning Golos Tireless Pilgrim, the Commander Rules Committee suggests that “Golos is simply a better choice of leader for all but the most commander-centric decks.” The full statement says:

Golos, Tireless Pilgrim has been a much-discussed card that is both popular to play with and unpopular to play against. There are many problems with the card, but the greatest is that in the low-to-middle tiers where we focus the banlist, Golos is simply a better choice of leader for all but the most commander-centric decks.

The committee makes it clear that the core reason behind this ban is the fact that Golos kills the diversity in commander choice and reduces the player’s intention to use other commanders.

Its presence crushes the kind of diversity in commander choice which we want to promote. You can drop in Golos and a few 5-color lands into a random deck and get all the ramp and card advantage you would ever want from a commander, with no worries about your mana base.

For a long time, Golos has been one of the most popular commanders in Magic The Gathering, but it has to be changed with the committee banning the card as of today.
