PS5 Pre-Orders Might Be Limited, Reddit User Discovers

The upcoming console generation is crawling up in just under five months, and plenty of internet denizens are ravenous to uncover whatever they can about the new Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Some users, however, have already tracked down a line of code indicating that the PS5 will be limited to one order per household.

Originally reported on by Matt Kim at IGN, this discovery — a piece of source code taken from direct.playstation.com — has already been verified by the IGN team, and Reddit user u/Kgarvey, as authentic evidence of the one-per-household pre-order limit.

The error message displays the following when a single user attempts to pre-order more than one PlayStation 5 console from Sony’s website at one time: “You can only purchase one version of the PS5 Console: Disc or Digital. You have already added one PS5 console to your cart.”

Sony is planning to roll out the next-gen PlayStation 5 console with both a Physical and a Digital version, the latter of which will not contain an optical drive and will not allow you to insert discs of any variety. If you’re in the market for one of each, you’re potentially out of luck if you plan to purchase both consoles directly from Sony.

However, this is only relevant to those planning to order from the PlayStation Direct website once pre-orders are live. In fact, there’s nothing stopping you from purchasing consoles from more than one retailer before or after launch.

Sony has said publicly that it will give everybody plenty of time to prepare for pre-orders to go live. Further, it’s only been a week since the PlayStation 5 Amazon page was launched into the atmosphere (for all to gaze upon, longingly).

Though pre-orders are yet to become available, that same Amazon page includes a list of upcoming PlayStation 5 games that are on our wishlists, including the much-awaited Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
